Why hike at Gothics, New York ?
Gothics is the 10th highest peak in New York State. It is known for magnificent views and is the highest peak in the Lower Great Range. Gothics can be hiked in combination with various other neighboring peaks. It is not uncommon to hike Gothics along with Sawteeth and/or Armstrong Mountain and Upper Wolf Jaw (and potentially Lower Wolf Jaw). Another popular destination very close to Gothics is Pyramid Peak - too close to be considered its own peak, but widely considered one of the best views in the High Peaks. Several trails and trailheads allow access to Gothics. From the Ausable Club, the hiker can follow the Lake Road to the Wedge Brook Trail and ascend Gothics over Upper Wolf Jaw and Armstrong, the Beaver Meadows Trail, or the trail at the end of the Lake Road that leads to the Sawteeth-Gothics col. From The Garden, there is access to the Range Trail at Wolf Jaws col (again ascending over Upper Wolf Jaw and Armstrong), or the Orebed Brook Trail. The final ascent of Gothics from the top of the Orebed Brook trail involves the "cable route", a steep route where a cable has been installed to assist hikers and to help channel traffic along a specific route. The Gothics, located in the Adirondacks of New York, are a range of jagged peaks that offer some of the best hiking and camping in the state. The area is also popular for fishing, with many streams and rivers winding their way through the mountains. The views from the top of the Gothics are simply stunning, with Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains of Vermont visible on a clear day. Exploring further into this majestic region, one can venture into Johns Brook Valley, which offers an immersive experience into nature's tranquility. The valley leads adventurers towards Johns Brook Lodge, a perfect base for those looking to explore more remote areas like Beaver Meadow Falls or embark on challenging hikes such as those found along Ore Bed Trail. Keene Valley serves as a gateway to these adventures, providing easy access to Marcy Field where many begin their journey into this rugged landscape. As you traverse through these trails, you'll encounter breathtaking sights along Ausable River, adding another layer of beauty to your expedition. For those seeking a unique blend of adventure and serenity, Dec Interior Outpost provides an ideal spot for reflection amidst nature's grandeur. Whether you're an avid hiker or simply wish to soak in panoramic vistas, this region promises unforgettable experiences.Trail maps
