The South Mountain-Fairy Trail is a moderate hike in the Adirondacks that takes you through a beautiful forest and past several small waterfalls. The trail begins by following an old railroad bed, so it's relatively easy to follow. As you hike, the forest becomes thicker and more beautiful, with mossy rocks and small streams. After about half a mile, you'll come to the first waterfall, which is just a few feet high but very pretty. A little further up the trail is the second waterfall, which is a little taller. Just past the falls, the trail splits. The left fork goes to South Mountain, while the right fork leads to Fairy Lake. If you're looking for a more challenging hike, continue on to South Mountain; otherwise, turn around and head back the way you came.
