Discover Round Mountain: A Hidden Gem in the Adirondacks
Welcome to the breathtaking Adirondacks, a paradise for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts! Nestled within this stunning region is Round Mountain, a lesser-known but equally captivating destination that promises an unforgettable adventure for nature lovers.
Why Visit Round Mountain?
Round Mountain offers a unique hiking experience that combines moderate challenges with rewarding views. Standing at approximately 3,100 feet, it may not be the tallest peak in the Adirondacks, but what it lacks in height, it more than makes up for in charm and tranquility. This trail is perfect for those looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in the serene beauty of nature.
The Trail Experience
The hike to Round Mountain is a moderately challenging trek that spans about 4 miles round trip. The trailhead is conveniently located near Keene Valley, making it easily accessible for day-trippers or those staying in nearby accommodations. As you ascend, you'll traverse through lush forests filled with towering pines and vibrant foliage, especially stunning during the fall months.
One of the highlights of this hike is the variety of terrain you'll encounter. From rocky paths to gentle slopes, each step brings you closer to panoramic vistas that will take your breath away. The summit offers sweeping views of the surrounding High Peaks region, including Giant Mountain and Noonmark Mountain—perfect spots for capturing those Instagram-worthy photos!
For those seeking further exploration, consider venturing onto the S. Burns Weston Trail or Stimson Trail which offer additional routes through Essex County's beautiful landscapes. These trails provide access to other notable peaks such as Nippletop and parts of the Colvin Range.
What to Bring
Before setting out on your adventure, make sure you're well-prepared. Sturdy hiking boots are essential due to some rocky sections along the trail. Don't forget your camera or smartphone to capture the incredible scenery! It's also wise to pack plenty of water and snacks to keep your energy levels up as you explore.
If you're planning an extended stay in Lake Placid or nearby areas like St. Huberts or Chapel Pond, consider booking a package at a resort spa such as Mirror Lake Inn Escape for a relaxing retreat after your hikes.
Respecting Nature
As always when exploring natural areas, it's important to practice Leave No Trace principles. Carry out everything you bring in and respect wildlife by observing from a distance. By doing so, we can ensure that Round Mountain remains pristine for future generations of hikers.
Plan Your Visit
Whether you're an experienced hiker or just starting out on your outdoor journey, Round Mountain offers something special for everyone. Its peaceful trails and awe-inspiring views make it a must-visit spot in the Adirondacks.
