The mountain is named for the Iroquois Nation, which once inhabited the area. The peak can be accessed by hiking trails from several directions. The most popular route is the Van Hoevenberg Trail, which begins near the Olympic Village at Lake Placid. The hike to the summit takes about four hours. The views from the top are spectacular, with 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The Iroquois Peak trails are located in the Adirondack Mountains near Lake Placid, New York. To get to the start of the trails, take Route 73 to Keene Valley and then follow signs to the High Peaks Wilderness. The trails start at the end of the road near Marcy Dam.
