Why hike at Barrage du Gouffre d'Enfer ?
The Gouffre d'Enfer is a dam located in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, on the Allier River. It was built between 1965 and 1968. It is 148 meters high and has a storage capacity of 240 million cubic meters of water. The dam is equipped with a huge system of turbines and generators that produce electricity.

The start of the Gouffre d'Enfer Dam trails is located in Saint-Nectaire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. To get there, take the D4 towards Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise and continue on the D618 to Saint-Nectaire. The dam is located near the village.
