The park is located on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River and covers an area of 318 hectares. It is the most popular park in Edmonton, with over 2 million visitors each year.

The park has a number of features, including a large lake, a river valley trail system, a playground, a waterpark, and a number of sports fields. It is also home to the Edmonton Valley Zoo, the John Janzen Nature Centre, and the Muttart Conservatory.
